Thanks for posting this, Ly. I find this letter curiously kind and loving despite Baldwin's bold assertion that he hates white people (as well as black people). Somehow that hatred doesn't come across, overall. Baldwin writes a letter about passion and care, from his image of himself raising his siblings with a book in the other hand to his encyclopedic tour of his experience of Western culture with Africa tucked in his back pocket. What a treat!
